Vice President for Legal Affairs and General Counsel to Retire

After nearly 22 years of service to Duquesne, Linda S. Drago will retire from her role as vice president for legal affairs and general counsel, and University secretary effective June 30.

“The legal landscape for higher education has changed dramatically over the last two decades. Linda’s prudent counsel and significant overall contributions during these years helped guide the University through multiple challenges, many of them unprecedented,” said President Charles J. Dougherty. “She has been a trusted advisor to Duquesne faculty, administrators and Board members. Through them, she has truly served God by serving students. Her loyalty and commitment to Duquesne and its mission will be long remembered with gratitude and affection.”

After joining the University as a staff attorney in 1993, Drago was appointed general counsel in 1995 and named vice president of legal affairs in 2009. In addition to her work as the University’s chief legal officer, Drago has served as University secretary since her 1999 election to that role by Duquesne’s Board of Directors. Prior to her work at the University, Drago served as associate general counsel for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, a litigation attorney with the law firm of Cauley & Conflenti and the associate director of the University of Pittsburgh Law School Library.

A respected leader in the legal, academic and Pittsburgh communities, Drago was honored in 2011 by the National Diversity Council, which named her as one of the Most Powerful and Influential Women of Pennsylvania. She serves various professional and community organizations, including the Jaguar Club of Pittsburgh, for which she was the first female president. Drago also is a member of the Animal Friends Advisory Board; on the Board of Directors and an adoption consultant for Going Home Greyhounds, Inc.; and chairman of the Finance Council for Holy Angels Church.
