Duquesne Names New Vice President for Student Life

Dr. Douglas K. Frizzell has been named vice president for student life at Duquesne University, effective, Wednesday, July 1, 2015. He will succeed the Rev. Sean Hogan, C.S.Sp., who will step down as executive vice president but will remain with the University as president of the newly formed Duquesne University Scholarship Association.

“Students and their families expect that our mission extends beyond the classroom and permeates throughout the University. Our student life division works every day to deliver on our promise to ensure that it does,” said President Dr. Charles Dougherty. “Doug’s broad experience in creating opportunities for students to grow personally and spiritually will position us well to meet these expectations.”

Frizzell currently serves as vice president for student affairs at Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati. In this role, he provides leadership for a variety of student support services including residence life, judicial affairs, athletics, campus ministry, health services, food services, campus police, student activities and counseling services, among others. His accomplishments include oversight for institution-wide mission-related initiatives and the university’s Center for Ethical Leadership; the creation of a director of diversity and inclusion position to address the needs of underrepresented individuals; the development of Greek life on campus; and the creation of a mission orientation program for all new faculty and staff.

Prior to joining Mount St. Joseph in June 2000, Frizzell served as vice president for student affairs at Newberry College in Newberry, S.C. Previously, he served as dean of students and associate dean for student life at the University of Findlay in Ohio.

Frizzell has held leadership positions in the Greater Cincinnati Consortium of Colleges and Universities, and the Ohio Association of Student Personnel Administrators. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from West Liberty University in W.Va., and his master’s degree in college student personnel and his Ph.D. in higher education administration from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
