Duquesne University Pharmacy, Center and School Garner APhA Pinnacle Award

The Mylan School of Pharmacy, together with the Duquesne University Pharmacy, the Center for Pharmacy Care and the Academic Partners Program, has been selected by the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Foundation as one of its three 2015 Pinnacle Award honorees.

The Pinnacle Awards, established in 1998, celebrate significant contributions to the medication use process through increasing patient adherence, reducing drug misadventures, promoting the use of national treatment guidelines, improving patient outcomes or enhancing communication among the members of the health care team.

Duquesne was selected for the Government Agency-Nonprofit Organization-Association Award, which recognizes organizations that have demonstrated approaches to assist patients and their caregivers in achieving better outcomes from their medications.

“This prestigious, national honor underscores the positive impact that the Mylan School of Pharmacy has on the health and well-being of our community—especially the underserved,” said President Dr. Charles J. Dougherty.

Founded in 1925, the Mylan School of Pharmacy works to improve health outcomes by educating and mentoring students who advance the profession of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences research. Through the Center for Pharmacy Care, the Duquesne University Pharmacy and the school’s Academic Partners Program, it provides patient-care services and educational outreach to the underserved in Pittsburgh and the region.

“We live our mission through many ways in the School of Pharmacy, including direct patient contact and practice-based research, pharmacoeconomics outcomes research and the basic science research efforts that affects disease outcomes,” added Dean of Pharmacy Dr. J. Douglas Bricker. “This is yet another example of how we are true to our mission of improving health outcomes in patients and their communities.”

Duquesne and the Pinnacle awardees will be honored on Wednesday, Sept. 16, during a ceremony at APhA headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The APhA Foundation’s mission is to improve people’s health through pharmacists’ patient care services. The foundation is affiliated with the American Pharmacists Association, the national professional society of pharmacists in the U.S.
