Art on the Bluff: A Walking Tour of Duquesne

The city’s Office of Public Art will host a public, hourlong walking tour of campus next week.

Scheduled for Friday, Feb. 26, at noon in the main lobby of Mellon Hall, this guided tour will include Mellon Hall—which was designed by modernist architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the mural I Am Because We Are by Gerard Tonti, Ron Desmett’s sculpture The Spirit of Duquesne and James Simon’s Uptown Rhythm.

Guest speakers will include Rachel Klipa from the Office of Public Art, architectural historian Albert Tannler, and artists Simon and Tonti.

Registration can be completed online and is $8 in advance, or $10 at the door. The tour is limited to 50 participants. The tour fee will be waived for current students who show their Duquesne IDs at check-in on the day of the tour. Students can pre-register by e-mail or on the day of tour.
