Duquesne Students ‘Stand Up for Homeless Children’

For the sixth consecutive year, University students are partnering with the Homeless Children’s Education Fund (HCEF) and will gather on Academic Walk to raise awareness of the educational issues facing homeless children throughout Allegheny County.

Dr. Erik Garrett, associate professor of communication and rhetorical studies, along with his students, collaborated with the HCEF for the annual Stand up for Homeless Children event, which will be held on Wednesday, April 20, at 4 p.m.

During the event, participants will stand in silence for 15 minutes for those who have no voice, while holding images of faces that represent the estimated 2,900 children experiencing homelessness in the area.

Garrett recently received The Joseph Lagana Volunteer Award at the HCEF’s 17th annual Champions for Children Gala. The award honors members of the Pittsburgh community who have gone above and beyond to improve the lives of children.
