Symposium Reexamines Strategies for Addressing Social Justice Issues

At the annual Duquesne Educational Leadership Symposium (DELS)—Rivers of Justice Bridges of Love: Defining Our Way—educators, academics and community partners will plan the future of this gathering focused on issues of social justice and K-12 education.

The ninth annual symposium, sponsored by the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA) Center for Educational Leadership and Social Justice, will challenge participants to reflect on themselves in relation to their work and the partnership with the UCEA Center. The goal of this DELS meeting is to reestablish purpose and momentum going forward. In doing so, the participants will review past themes, research and data initiatives derived from the previous eight DELS. This review will inform future work beginning with the group’s 10th year celebration in 2017.

Twenty-five educators, academics and community leaders invited from local organizations will gather at the East End Cooperative Ministry in East Liberty for the discussion.

DELS is an outgrowth of the Duquesne University UCEA Center for Leadership and Social Justice directed by Dr. Gretchen Givens Generett, one of eight centers currently operating around the world.
