2016 Distinguished Dissertation Awards Announced

The Graduate Council and Office of Research have announced the following 2016 Distinguished Dissertation Awards.

Jeffrey Michael Katz, Multi-component Characterization of Strain Rate Sensitivity in Pharmaceutical Materials
Dr. Ira Buckner, Advisor

Social Sciences
Natalie Toomey, Online Multimedia Learning: Predicting Learner Media Selections in the Visual and Verbal Domains
Dr. Misook Heo, Advisor

The committee also recommended two students receive Honorable Mention for their work: Stephanie Adair for Thinking Without Concepts: The Aesthetic Use of the Logical Functions in Kant’s Third Critique and Tarsha Jones for Predictors of Breast Cancer Screening and Cancer Genetic Services Use Among Young African American Female Breast Cancer Survivors: A Secondary Data Analysis.

The award review committee, chaired by Dr. Lina Dostilio, included Dr. Jim Drennen, Dr. Erik Garrett, Dr. Kathy Glass, Dr. Jeffry Madura, Dr. Melissa Kalarchia, Dr. Lori Koelz and Dr. Jim Schreiber.

“We thank the faculty for their important work in reviewing the nominees for these awards,” said Dr. Alexandra Gregory, chair of the Graduate Council and associate provost for academic affairs. “It is very time-consuming and they are very thoughtful in their work together.”
