School of Pharmacy to Host Annual White Coat Ceremony

More than 180 third-year students from the Mylan School of Pharmacy will participate in the annual White Coat Ceremony before an audience of their families and friends on Sunday, Aug. 21, at 2:30 p.m. in the A.J. Palumbo Center.

During the ceremony, the students will be presented with white coats that they will wear during their laboratory and experiential education. The class members will also recite a pledge of professionalism.

Dr. John Grabenstein, executive director of global health & medical affairs at Merck Vaccines, will be the keynote speaker at the ceremony. A 1980 graduate of the School of Pharmacy, Grabenstein provides scientific advice to reduce the burden of vaccine-preventable diseases worldwide. He has published more than 300 articles and eight books primarily on immunization, public health and leadership. He also served as a Colonel in the United States Army, where he oversaw the Department of Defense’s immunization programs for 9 million troops, retirees and family members across four continents and dozens of ships at sea.
