Fair Trade Week 2016 Features a Global Marketplace and More

Get a jump-start on your holiday shopping at Fair Trade Week 2016. Faculty, staff and students will have the opportunity to purchase ethically-sourced products from around the world, as well as enjoy activities including a lunch-and-learn event and movie screening.

Fair Trade Week runs from Monday, Nov. 28, through Thursday, Dec. 1, and includes the vendor marketplace each day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Representatives from the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) and the Alliance for Fair Food will also be on campus throughout the week helping to spread awareness of their fair food program in U.S. fields.

“Fair Trade gives global market access to artisans and producers in developing countries who would not normally be able to sell goods on a larger scale,” said Spiritan Campus Minister Kate Lecci. “The guiding principles of this business system craft an ethical egalitarian approach to business and reaches out to those on the margins. As a Spiritan Catholic institution, promoting fair trade and fair food speaks to Duquesne’s roots by promoting the dignity of all people.”
