Grants Received

Funds totaling $530,675 were recently received by Duquesne University; the Education Law Clinic; the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts; the School of Education; the School of Nursing; and the Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences (BSNES).

  • Duquesne University, $40,000, from trustees of the A.J. Sigismunda Palumbo Charitable Trust, to support renovations to the basement and first floor of the building that occupies the Center for Community Engaged Teaching and Research. Dr. Anne Marie Hansen, assistant professor of occupational therapy, will administer the award.
  • Tiffany Sizemore-Thompson, assistant clinical professor of law, and Dr. Tammy Hughes, professor of counseling, psychology and special education, $25,000, from the Nimick Forbesway Foundation, to enable the Education Law Clinic to expand community outreach and provide expert advice for clinical clients.
  • Dr. John Mitcham, assistant professor of history, a $6,800 Faculty Development Fund Award, for Crisis of Empire: The Great War, Anti-Colonialism, and the Origins of the Commonwealth.
  • Dr. Xia Chao, assistant professor of instruction and leadership in education, a $10,000 Faculty Development Fund Award for Saving Stories as Translocal Action: A Bilingual Picture Book Project Bridging Literacy Worlds of Teachers, Students, Refugee Families and Communities.
  • Dr. Pamela Spigelmyer, assistant professor of nursing, a $7,000 Faculty Development Fund Award, for Improving Family Caregivers’ Self-Management and Coping with Memory-Related Behaviors of People with Dementia.
  • Dr. Michael Jensen-Seaman, associate professor of biological sciences, $428,273, from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, for Molecular Basis of Adaptation of Seminal Proteins of Humans and Other Primates.
  • Dr. Wook Kim, assistant professor of biological sciences, a $6,800 Faculty Development Fund Award, for Molecular Anatomy of a Novel Multicellular Trait in Bacteria.
  • Dr. Mishook Heo, professor of instructional technology, a $6,802 Faculty Development Grant, for Visuals, Multimedia and Learner Characteristics in Online Learning: Systematic Design to Enhance Learner Motivation.
