New Academic Year Launched with Bishop Zubik, Spiritans at Annual Mass

More than 2,800 students, faculty, staff, alumni and guests gathered for the annual Mass of the Holy Spirit this past weekend.

The Most. Rev. David A. Zubik, D.D., bishop of Pittsburgh, was joined by the Very Rev. John Fogarty, C.S.Sp., superior general of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, and the Very Rev. Jeffrey T. Duaime, C.S.Sp., provincial superior for the United States Province of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, presided over the Mass, with numerous Spiritans and University faculty, student priests and diocesan priests concelebrating.

The Mass, which serves as the official kick off for the new academic year at Duquesne, featured members of the incoming freshman class and other student participants as well as student and staff cantors, choir members and musicians.

New Board Chair John R. McGinley, Jr. presented the first scripture reading, and President Ken Gormley gave brief remarks welcoming those in attendance.
