Dr. Ronald Arnett, chair and professor of communication and rhetorical studies, was selected as a 2017 Distinguished Scholar awardee by the National Communication Association (NCA). He will receive his award during the NCA’s annual convention in November.

Janine Carlock, assistant professor of English as a second language (ESL), co-authored the textbook The International Student’s Guide to Writing a Research Paper with fellow ESL program instructor Peter Kolenich. The textbook, published by the University of Michigan Press, gives an in-depth approach to expectations for writing and research in American academic programs.

Dr. Sarah Manspeaker, assistant professor of athletic training, led an interprofessional faculty group from the Rangos School of Health Sciences that recently published the results of a student-centered workshop focused on ethics, which was held at the school in 2015. The paper was published in the Journal of Interprofessional Care.

Dr. Amy Mattila, assistant professor of occupational therapy, was recently appointed to the American Occupational Therapy Association’s (AOTA) Representative Assembly’s Opioid Drug Abuse Ad Hoc Committee.

Dr. Nihat Polat, associate dean for graduate studies and research and associate professor of education, and Dr. Laura Mahalingappa, assistant professor of instruction and leadership in education, are two of three authors who have co-authored the book Supporting Muslim Students: A Guide to Understanding the Diverse Issues of Today’s Classrooms. The book is published by Rowman & Littlefield.
