Spiritan Campus Ministry Events Lead Up to International Day of Peace

Members of the Duquesne University community are invited by Spiritan Campus Ministry to participate in a variety of events as part of 11 Days of Peace in preparation for the International Day of Peace on Thursday, Sept. 21.

Established by a United Nations resolution in 1981 to coincide with the opening of the General Assembly, International Day of Peace provides an opportunity for individuals, organizations and nations to create practical acts of peace on a shared date.

“Anyone, anywhere can celebrate Peace Day,” said Campus Minister Kate Lecci. “It can be as simple as lighting a candle at noon, or just sitting in silent meditation. Or it can involve getting your co-workers, organization, community or government engaged in a large event. Take this opportunity to make peace in your own relationships as well as to make an impact on the larger conflicts of our time.”

Faculty, staff and students can participate in the following events as part of Duquesne’s 11 Days of Peace:

Monday, Sept. 11

  • Mass with candle service, noon, Chapel of the Holy Spirit
  • Mass for Peace, 8 p.m., Chapel of the Holy Spirit
