Duquesne University Climbs Again in ‘U.S. News’ Best Colleges Rankings

For the 10^th consecutive year, Duquesne University is again ranked among the U.S. News and World Report’s top tier of schools, rising four more spots to No. 120 in the newly released 2018 edition of the Best Colleges rankings. The University is also tied for the 12^th spot among national Catholic institutions—up two spots from last year.

In addition to its new ranking among the Best National Universities category, U.S. News recognized Duquesne University at No. 42 in the Best Value Schools category.

Designed to help prospective students and their families compare academic institutions as they navigate the path to look for the right school, the U.S. News Best Colleges takes into consideration numerous factors for the rankings. Academic offerings, first-year student retention, graduation rates, strength of faculty and financial aid availability are among the variety of indicators the publication examines.

U.S. News ranks its Best Values Schools based on the ratio of quality to price; the percentage of all undergrads receiving need-based scholarships or grants during the 2015-16 year; and the average discount, which is the percentage of a school’s total costs for 2015-16 covered divided by the average need-based scholarship or grant to undergrads.

Other University highlights from U.S. News and World Report’s 2018 Best Colleges rankings include:

• Ranked No. 75 in the Best Colleges for Veterans category (up seven spots from last year). This list recognizes schools from the 2018 rankings that participate in federal initiatives helping veterans and active-duty service members pay for their degrees.
• Named No. 106 in the High School Counselor Rankings. To create this list, guidance counselors across the nation rate universities on a scale of 1 to 5.
• Ranked No. 151 in the Best Undergraduate Business Programs category.
