Annual Turkey Drive Aims to Feed More than 200 Local Disadvantaged Families

For the 12th consecutive year, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) is inviting the campus community to help provide local disadvantaged families with turkey dinners for Thanksgiving.

The ODI will accept Giant Eagle gift cards and monetary donations of any amount beginning Tuesday, Oct. 2, through Friday, Nov. 17. A $30 donation can provide a turkey dinner for a family of four. Donations can be dropped off at the ODI office in Room 106 of the Union. In addition, departments can make donations via an account transfer.

To date, the annual Turkey Drive at Duquesne has provided more than 2,200 turkey dinners to local families. “It simply reaffirms how privileged we are as a University community, to come together and help others in need,” said ODI Director Jeff Mallory.

Faculty and staff are also invited to help the ODI put together the turkey dinner packages on Friday, Nov. 17, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Public Safety Building as well as distribute them on Saturday, Nov. 18, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

“It’s critical that we engage our University community to participate in this drive—it says a lot about our community overall,” said Mallory. “We continue to see an increase in physical support and in the supply of resources, which greatly enhances this drive.”
