Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs Search is Underway

In August, President Ken Gormley announced that Dr. Tim Austin, provost and vice president for academic affairs, will retire at the end of this academic year. Dr. Mary Ellen Glasgow, dean and professor of the School of Nursing, who chairs the search committee recently shared an update regarding the search.

“I would like to thank all who participated in conversations with our consultants, Julie Tea and Julie Williams-Krishnan of Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates recently,” said Glasgow. “Your thoughtful comments provided the basis for the creation of the search prospectus—a valuable tool that will be used to solicit nominations and recruit candidates nationally.”

Members of the University can review the search prospectus on Duquesne’s website and at Storbeck/Pimentel and Associates’ site.

“As you review the search prospectus, please pay particular attention to the attributes most highly desired in our new provost,” said Glasgow. “Please suggest people you know who could serve effectively in this critically important position or those you think might know of potential candidates.”

The names of potential candidates can be emailed to Tea and Williams-Krishnan at DuquesneProvostVPAA@storbecksearch.com. The names and information will kept confidential.

Over the next several weeks, the search committee will generate a national candidate pool through nominations received from the campus community and others; inquiries at other colleges and universities similar to Duquesne in scope and mission; advertising in The Chronicle of Higher Education and Inside Higher Ed; a number of other relevant websites; and the work of Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates.

The search committee will begin to narrow the candidate pool in December, moving toward late January when final interviews will be held.
