Funds totaling $320,309 were recently received by the School of Pharmacy, the Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences (BSNES) and the Rangos School of Health Sciences.

  • Dr. Jennifer Elliott, associate professor of pharmacy practice, School of Pharmacy, $150,000, from The Heinz Endowments, to track and measure asthma in the region’s schoolchildren and advance primary prevention implementation and policy.
  • Drs. Benedict Kolber (BSNES), Kevin Tidgewell (Pharmacy), Michael Cascio (BSNES) and Rita Mihailescu (BSNES), $107,999, from the National Institutes of Health, for Pain and Neurodegenerative Undergraduate Research Experiences: Interacting with Community Partners to Build Specialized and Enhanced Neurologic Disease Programs for Undergraduates.
  • Drs. Matthew Kostek (Rangos), Benedict Kolber (BSNES) and Kimberly Szucs (Rangos), $62,310, a Pain Research Challenge Grant from the University of Pittsburgh’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute, funded by the Virginia Kaufman Endowment Fund, for Walking: Meditation and Exercise for the Treatment of Chronic Low Back Pain.
