Students to Perform at Annual Music Scholarship Competition
Seven student-musicians from the Mary Pappert School of Music will showcase their talents and compete for a $5,000 scholarship award at the annual Duquesne University Women’s Advisory Board’s (DUWAB) undergraduate music scholarship competition on Tuesday, March 13.
The competition, which is open to juniors who have been recommended by faculty, is judged by a panel of three professional musicians. Multiple areas of performance will be represented at the competition, including classical guitar, trumpet, piano and violin.
The DUWAB has been awarding scholarships to deserving Duquesne students for nearly 40 years. Terry Tatrai, DUWAB president, believes that the scholarship competition does more than support the educational goals of young musicians. “The competition also provides an opportunity for students to perform for an appreciative audience and enhance their presentation skills,” she said.
Free and open to the campus community, the competition will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the PNC Recital Hall of the Mary Pappert School of Music. The winner will be announced during a reception in the PNC Recital Hall lobby following the performance.
