Media Department Celebrates Day of Excellence with Award Ceremony, Panelists

The Duquesne Media Department in the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts will host a panel of media professionals, a portfolio show for its current students and an awards ceremony at its annual Day of Excellence.

“Our students create tangible evidence of skills, talent and knowledge,” said Dr. Mike Dillon, associate professor of multiplatform journalism and chair of the department. “The point of creating a portfolio is to have someone see it.”

The Day of Excellence will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20. Department alum and Post-Gazette reporter Julian Routh will moderate an influencers panel discussion, which will feature:

  • Bryan Hyslop, editor of Pittsburgh Magazine
  • Abby Krizner, morning show host on 105.9 The X
  • Erin Schwille, vice president at Edelman PR
  • Anastasia Farmerie, producer/production manager at PMI TV
  • Chris Daley, senior manager of digital media at UPMC Health Plan.

Kids from local high schools are also invited to speak with current Duquesne media students about how the Media Department prepares students to succeed in the fields of journalism, public relations and digital media arts.

“This day is really about showcasing the good work we are producing as a department and celebrating our talented students and the field as a whole,” said Dillon.
