More than 100 Spiritans from across the world will convene on Duquesne’s campus next week for the third chapter meeting of the United States Province. The meeting will begin on Monday, June 18, with vespers.
The week-long meeting is convened every six years for the purpose of prayerful reflection on the work and direction of the congregation and election of the leadership team. As part of an ongoing community renewal process, it also will provide an opportunity to discern guidelines for Spiritans assigned to different regions and apply instructions from the General Chapters.
Expected attendees include members of the U.S. Province, Spiritans-in-formation and Lay Spiritans, as well as Spiritan priests and brothers serving domestically and abroad in such places as Nigeria, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Vietnam, Philippines, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Italy.
Bishop David A. Zubik, D.D., of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, and the Rev. John Fogarty, C.S.Sp., the superior general of the Spiritan Congregation, will take turns presiding over the daily Eucharist throughout the week.
The new provincial-elect will be announced when the chapter concludes on Friday, June 22. The new leadership team will begin its mandates on Wednesday, August 15.
