Hot Dog! Duquesne Kicks Off United Way Campaign Activities

Duquesne employees are invited to support Pittsburgh and surrounding communities through the University’s annual United Way campaign, which begins Monday, Oct. 1.

The United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania helps tens of thousands of families meet basic needs while assisting disabled individuals and seniors gain employment and live independently. The University’s United Way fundraising goal is $108,000 for this year.

United Way campaign activities will kick off with the Computing and Technology Services gourmet hot dog sale and technology raffle from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 1 on the second floor of the Union.

Duquesne University night with the Penguins is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 16. Everyone who purchases a ticket online for the game against the Vancouver Canucks will receive a Penguins and Duquesne University branded long-sleeved T-shirt and a chance to win a Zamboni ride during the first intermission. A portion of ticket sales will be donated to the United Way Impact Fund, which supports agencies serving the local community.

Other upcoming activities include the Cops ‘n Chefs BBQ on the bluff on Wednesday, Oct. 17, and the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk on Thursday, Oct. 18.

In addition, donors who make a pledge to University’s campaign by Friday, Sept. 30, will:

  • Be entered into an early bird drawing for two tickets to the Oct. 16 Pittsburgh Penguins game and a $25 gift certificate to the Red Ring
  • Receive five entries into the December grand prize drawing for a free Duquesne University annual parking permit.

“Duquesne and the United Way are both committed to improving the lives of people in our community,” said Tom Hart, chief of police and director of public safety, and chair of this year’s campaign. “Even a small contribution can make a big difference to families in our region.”
