Annual Turkey Drive Returns to Help Local Disadvantaged Families

Although Thanksgiving is almost two months away, preparations are beginning for the 13th annual Turkey Drive, which provides local disadvantaged families with turkey dinners for Thanksgiving.

Turkey Drive flyerThe Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) is accepting monetary donations of any amount through Friday, Nov. 9. A $30 donation can provide a turkey dinner for a family of four. Donations can be dropped off at the ODI office in Room 106 of the Union. University departments can also make donations via an account transfer.

To date, the annual Turkey Drive at Duquesne has provided more than 2,400 turkey dinners to local families.

“It confirms how truly fortunate we are as a University community to come together and help others in their respective times of need,” Jeff Mallory, assistant vice president for Diversity, Inclusion and Student Advancement, said.

Faculty and staff also are invited to help the ODI assemble the turkey dinner packages on Nov. 9, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Public Safety Building as well as deliver them on Saturday, Nov. 10, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

“It remains critical that we engage our University community to participate in this drive as it speaks directly to the health of our community overall in terms of serving others,” Mallory said. “We continue to realize an annual increase in the physical support and in the supply of resources, which greatly enhances this drive.”
