Next Installment of ‘Becoming American’ Series Examines Immigration and Cultural Changes

The third installment of Gumberg Library’s Becoming American: A Documentary Film and Discussion Series on Our Immigration Experience will explore the ways immigrants navigate cultural changes and maintain traditions in adjusting to life in a new country.

A free screening of Between Two Worlds: Identity and Acculturation will be held Monday, Oct. 22, at 6:30 p.m. in the Jewish Community Center’s Katz Theatre at 5738 Darlington Rd. in Squirrel Hill. Dr. Jennie Schulze, associate professor of political science in the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts, will lead the evening’s discussion.

Online resources are available for anyone interested in learning more about the movie’s historical and scholarly context of Between Two Worlds.

Funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Becoming American series provides participants an opportunity to explore both the history and impact of immigration in the United States. Duquesne is the only Pennsylvania institution to be awarded the grant.
