‘Becoming American’ Series Shifts Focus to Families and Immigrants

In its fifth installment, Gumberg Library’s Becoming American: A Documentary Film and Discussion Series on Our Immigration Experience will explore the importance of family and community ties in successful transitions to American culture.

The free screening of documentary Family and Community will be held Monday, Nov. 5, at 6:30 p.m. in Room 104 of College Hall. Dr. Jennie Schulze, associate professor of political science at Duquesne, will lead the evening’s discussion.

Additional historical and scholarly context is available in the program’s free online resources.

Funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Becoming American series provides participants an opportunity to explore both the history and impact of immigration in the United States. Duquesne is the only Pennsylvania institution to be awarded the grant.
