Sexual Assault Awareness Month Events Scheduled

Numerous educational programs have been scheduled on campus to raise awareness of sexual violence as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Activities that are open to faculty and staff include:

Thursday, March 21
The Clothesline Project, 5 p.m., Union NiteSpot, first floor, Union

Participants are asked to bring an old t-shirt in a significant color to support survivors and victims of sexual violence and assault by expressing their thoughts and feelings on the shirt about victimization as an observer, bystander or someone affected. Sponsored by Student Health Advisory Council.

Friday, March 22
Get to Know Your Title IX Coordinator, 11:30 a.m., second-floor Atrium, Union

Meet Duquesne’s Title IX coordinator and ask questions about reporting options, the University’s Title IX policy and participate in the bystander pledge.

Friday, April 5
It’s On Us Pledge, 4 p.m., Rooney Field

In coordination with the Teal Game, members of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee will encourage student athletes and peers to take the It’s On Us pledge.

Women’s Lacrosse Annual Teal Game, 7 p.m., Rooney Field

The women’s lacrosse team will wear their teal It’s On Us t-shirts during the pre-game warm-up to draw attention to sexual violence and to support survivors of sexual assault.

Tuesday, April 9
Artistic Trauma: Empowerment Through Mediums, 6 p.m., Africa Room, Union

Featuring student artists from local universities, this art show is designed to explore the aftermath of trauma, challenge stigmas and empower survivors of sexual violence.

Film Screening: The Bystander Moment: Transforming Rape Culture at its Roots, 3 p.m., first floor, Union

This film addresses the crucial importance of active bystanders in the face of sexual harassment and abuse and other forms of gender violence.

Tuesday, April 30

Not Your Average Sexual Assault Panel: A Student Led Discussion, 6 p.m., Lecture Hall 3, Rockwell Hall

This student-led panel will examine silence and shame, gender norms on campus, and creating safe spaces and healing for survivors.
