Celebration of Teaching Excellence Honors Outstanding Professors, Graduate Students

Provost Dr. David Dausey conferred two teaching awards April 11—the Creative Teaching Awards for faculty and the Awards for Excellence in Teaching for graduate students.

The Creative Teaching Awards recognize faculty who have implemented innovative ways of teaching and assessed the impact of those innovations on student learning.

This year’s winners are:

  • Inci Ozum Sayrak, assistant professor in the Department of Communication and Rhetorical Studies, for Cultivating Empathy in the Intercultural Communication Classroom
  • Branden Nemecek and David Zimmerman, associate professors in the School of Pharmacy, for Implementation of ‘Mock Wards’ Simulation for Enhancing Student Preparedness in Acute Care II Pharmacy Elective.

The Graduate Student Award for Excellence in Teaching recognizes teaching effectiveness through a portfolio process in which the graduate students demonstrate rigorous student learning, reflection on feedback and leadership in teaching among graduate students.

The recipients are:

  • John Hadlock, McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts
  • Marla Anzelone, McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts
  • Thomas Wright, School of Pharmacy
  • Jennifer Broderick, Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences.

Certificate of University Teaching recipients, workshop presenters, committee members, faculty near-peer mentors, blog writers, orientation volunteers and CTE advisory groups also were recognized at the event.
