Nursing Celebrates 25th Anniversary of Ph.D. Program

The School of Nursing recently marked the 25th anniversary of its Ph.D. in nursing degree with a daylong program of events.

When it launched in 1997, the doctoral degree in nursing was the nation’s first such online program. The curriculum reflects national trends in nursing research, including faculty research involving vulnerable and underserved populations.

Past and current faculty, staff and doctoral candidates gathered May 13 for the celebration. Faculty who helped launch the Ph.D. program shared reflections, and clinical Professor Dr. Joan Such Lockhart read a note written by former Dean Dr. Mary de Chesnay.

The day also included a panel discussion on opportunities in nursing, poster presentations, a look at alumni careers and a featured scholar presentation by Associate Nursing Professor Dr. Alison Colbert, dean of academic affairs for nursing.

Professor Dr. Rick Zoucha, chair of advanced role and the Ph.D. program, served as the day’s emcee. Video of the day’s activities can be viewed online.
