Diversity in Science Lecture Highlights Bayer School’s 25th Anniversary

Dr. S. James Gates, Jr., Ford Foundation professor of physics at Brown University, will present Does Diversity Matter in Science? as part of the Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Science’s 25th anniversary celebration.

Does Diversity Matter in Science?Gates will speak at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24 in the Union Ballroom. The presentation will be followed by a moderated question and answer session from the audience.

Among his many honors, Gates was awarded the National Medal of Science, the highest award given to U.S. scientists, and was named the Harvard Foundation’s Scientist of the Year. Gates also served on the U.S. President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology and on the Maryland State Board of Education from 2009-2016, and the National Commission on Forensic Science from 2013-2016. He is known for his work on supersymmetry, supergravity and superstring theory.
