Symposium to Celebrate Peaceful Dialogue between Christians and Muslims

An upcoming symposium will celebrate the eighth centenary of St. Francis’ encounter with Muslim ruler Malik al-Kamil, the fourth Ayyubid sultan of Egypt.

Symposium to Celebrate Peaceful Dialogue between Christians and MuslimsPresented by Duquesne’s Consortium for Christian-Muslim Dialogue (CCMD), Fruitful Interreligious Dialogue will take place Thursday, Oct. 3, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Africa Room of the Union.

Sister Kathleen Warren, O.S.F., author of Daring to Cross the Threshold, will give the keynote address The Hidden Wisdom of Francis and the Sultan: After 800 Years, Are We Ready for It?

A panel discussion with Warren and the Rev. Vincent Stegmann, C.S.Sp., and Rabbi Barbara Symons will follow the keynote address. Philosophy Professor Dr. James Swindal will serve as moderator.

The symposium will be held in conjunction with the annual Heritage Week and is sponsored by Islamic Relief USA, Duquesne’s Division of Mission and Identity, the Office of the Provost, the Center for African Studies, the Honors College and the Department of Theology.
