P-Values: Their History and Current Controversies will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. in room 541 of Fisher Hall. Schreiber will delve into the works of pioneers R.A. Fisher and W.S. Gosset, whose tests are widely used in various disciplines today. Employees, staff and students with an interest in research and statistical testing are invited to attend.

Schreiber also will share his personal accounts of reading Gosset’s original notes and experiments at the Guinness brewery archives in Dublin. In light of the recent American Statistical Association (ASA) statement about statistical significance, he will discuss the implications of the ASA recommendations and potential pathways for researchers.

A faculty member at Duquesne since 2004, Schreiber joined the School of Nursing in 2016. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, and he regularly presents at conferences worldwide. Schreiber previously served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Educational Research and the Journal of Experimental Education.

The Forum for Research and Scholarship (FORS) at the School of Nursing’s Center for Research for Vulnerable and Underserved Populations supports excellence in research and scholarship, promotes the exchange of ideas and intellectual debate, and offers peer review of manuscripts.
