Music School to Host a Variety of Public Events as Part of IEMMA Launch

As part of its launch of the Institute of Entertainment, Music and Media Arts (IEMMA) program, the Mary Pappert School of Music is hosting several public events.

IEMMA LogoThe first of the upcoming events, Hybrid Mixing with Solid State Logic and Sweetwater Music, is a free interactive seminar for aspiring audio engineers and producers. Because of a resurgence in analog recording, practitioners now learn elements of both analog and digital recording. The seminar will explore the benefits of working in a hybrid environment and how to apply them with innovative products by Solid State Logic, a manufacturer of high-end mixing and recording hardware. Open to the public, the seminar will be held Friday, Nov. 15, at 6:30 p.m. in the School of Music’s Thomas D. Pappert Center for Performance and Innovation.

As part of the IEMMA program, students in the School of Music record live Duquesne ensemble performances to be mixed and mastered, then broadcast, downloaded and streamed. An IEMMA live concert recording session with the jazz ensembles and former Mary Pappert School of Music professor and esteemed jazz recording artist/pianist David Budway will be held Sunday, Nov. 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Power Center Ballroom. Admission is $10 at the door.

Faculty, staff and students can meet Budway during a public lecture Monday, Nov. 18, at 3 p.m. in the music school’s PNC Recital Hall. Budway is one of the most versatile pianists on the New York music scene today and is considered a present-day jazz pioneer.

IEMMA is designed to foster students’ skill sets to ensure they thrive in the always-evolving entertainment field. It offers real-world situations and the chance to work alongside industry leaders in areas such as composing, recording, performance, engineering, production and more.
