Undergraduate Research Symposium to Conduct Virtual Competitions

Although Duquesne’s Undergraduate Research and Scholarship Symposium (URSS) has been canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak, undergraduates may submit their work in a virtual format. The Office of Student Research has added a Paper Competition and Virtual Poster Competition to the agenda in addition to its Video Competition.

Undergraduate students are encouraged to submit a video of three minutes or less about their research or scholarship project. Students also may compete in the URSS Paper Competition by submitting a research paper no longer than five pages to this site. Finally, students may submit a virtual poster to the poster competition. Guidelines and information can be found on the URSS website.

This year’s competition provides a creative opportunity for students to concisely communicate their research’s importance to a general audience, an essential career skill.

The deadline for both competitions is Tuesday, April 21. A committee of faculty and staff will review the submissions, and the winning authors and producers will receive monetary awards.

Videos will be added to the Office of Research YouTube playlist, and winning papers and posters will be featured on the DU Scholarship Collection site.
