Gumberg Library Shares Updates on Services and New Resources

Gumberg Library is now offering additional services, including options to request print materials and a limited reopening of library spaces on Monday, July 6.

Library Spaces Reopening July 6
Gumberg Library will reopen select spaces for study on July 6. Library staff are working hard to prepare the fourth floor for limited seating in the open study area and group study rooms. Library spaces will be open to Duquesne students, staff and faculty, and will require a reservation. More details, including the online reservation process, will be shared soon.

Browzine
Gumberg Library now offers access to scholarly journals through BrowZine, an online resource that allows users to browse, read and follow journals.

With BrowZine, users can:

  • Browse and read journals: Browse thousands of top journals by subject, easily review tables of contents and download full articles.
  • Stay Current with My Bookshelf: Create a personal bookshelf of titles to follow and receive new article notifications.
  • Access on any device: Easily access BrowZine from iOS and Android devices, and on the web to stay up-to-date from anywhere.

Drop Off or Ship Checked-Out MaterialsLibKey, a component of Browzine, allows users to directly access full-text articles, eliminating several steps in the typical retrieval process. Installing the LibKey Nomad extension in Google Chrome provides seamless access to full-text PDFs in PubMed, Scopus, publisher websites and Wikipedia.

Merck Index Online
The Merck Index, one of Gumberg’s most heavily-used print resources, is now available online through the A-Z Databases page. This resource is an authoritative and reliable source of information on chemicals, drugs and biologicals. In addition to providing the same authoritative information digitally on- or off-campus, the Merck Index Online is fully searchable and includes historical records that are not available in the print edition.

Request Library Materials for Contactless Pickup or Delivery
While the library continues to prioritize electronic resource delivery, requests can now be made for books and other library materials for pickup or shipment. Follow these steps to request library materials or use Interlibrary Loan to request items not owned by Gumberg. Most items will be ready to pick up within three business days. InterLibrary Loan delivery varies based on the location of the lending library. Gumberg staff will share when requested items have shipped or are ready to pick up during staffed hours, which are Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Drop Off or Ship Checked-Out Materials
For on-site returns, please bag items and drop them in the bins located at the Gumberg Library entrance during staffed hours, which are Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All returned items will be quarantined for 72 hours, so they may appear on an account for several days after they are returned.

To request a prepaid UPS return label, email ask@duq.libanswers.com and Gumberg Library will email a label. Pack up library items, take them to a UPS drop-off and the library will take care of the rest. All currently checked out library materials have a due date of Saturday, Aug. 15. Please note that there is no need to return them sooner.
