Traffic Restrictions Announced for Freshman Move-In

Approximately 1,100 students in the class of 2024 will arrive on campus next week during the annual freshman move-in, which will span three days.

To adhere to social distancing practices, the Office of Residence Life assigned incoming freshmen one of three move-in dates and times: Sunday, Aug. 16, from noon to 4 p.m.; Monday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

During these times, surface parking will be prohibited on the following campus streets and lots: Bluff St., McAnulty Dr. and Vickroy Streets, and the St. Ann parking lot.

Permit holders for the Forbes and Locust Garages must enter the garages via the Forbes Ave. entrance. Individuals with permits for gated surface lots can park in their respective lots.

The move-in route is as follows:

  • McAnulty Dr. from Forbes Ave. to the Locust St. intersection will be one way onto campus
  • Traffic will then be one way on McAnulty Dr. from Locust St. to Bluff St. to Stevenson St.
  • All traffic will exit campus onto Stevenson St. Entering campus from Stevenson St./the Boulevard of the Allies will be prohibited. Traffic on Stevenson St. will be one-way from Bluff St. to the entrance of Mercy Hospital.
  • Traffic exiting the Locust Garage will travel west on Locust St. and exit campus on Boyd St.
  • Shingiss St. will be closed/barricaded with jersey barriers at Forbes Ave. No traffic will be permitted to enter campus at this location.

“No Parking” signs will be posted to mark parking restrictions along the move-in route, which will go into effect at 11 a.m. this Friday, Aug. 14, and continue through freshman and upperclassmen move-in at various campus locations until 11 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23.

In addition, Brottier Hall move-in will begin at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19, and continue through 11 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23. This will increase traffic along McAnulty Dr. and Locust St., and parking will be restricted during this time.

Vehicles parked along the route during this restricted time period will be towed. Surface parking permit holders will be permitted to park in the Forbes Garage during this time.

No deliveries will be permitted on Monday, Aug. 17, and Tuesday, Aug.18, during the affected times. Notify vendors concerning parking restrictions for on-campus deliveries during the remainder of the week.
