School of Law Offering Homecoming Week CLE Event
Duquesne’s School of Law will present Historical Overview of Race and Voting in the United States Saturday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. featuring Professor of Law Wilson Huhn.
This virtual CLE course will highlight systemic racism, specifically the laws and court decisions that are used to suppress and dilute the votes of individuals who identify as racial minorities. Topics will include denial of citizenship to persons of color; battles that led to the adoption of the 15th Amendment; the annihilation of voting rights during the Redeemer Movement; decisions of the United States Supreme Court that upheld and struck down white primaries, poll taxes and malapportionment; the Voting Rights Act; and current schemes of voter suppression and vote dilution.
