Pa. First Lady, Secretary of Agriculture Added to McGinley-Rice Symposium on Hunger
Additional speakers and presenters, including the first lady of Pennsylvania, have been added to 11th annual McGinley-Rice Symposium, The Face of the Person Who is Hungry, will be held Thursday, Oct. 22, and Friday, Oct. 23.
First Lady Frances Wolf and Russell C. Redding, secretary for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, will be featured in pre-recorded videos during Friday’s 2:30 p.m. session. In addition, U.S. Congressman Dwight Evans of Pennsylvania and Johnna A. Pro, regional director of the state’s Department of Community & Economic Development, will join the session live to give closing remarks.
The Face of the Person Who is Hungry, hosted by the School of Nursing, is being held virtually and will include both live and pre-recorded sessions.
The agenda for the two-day symposium includes a variety of breakout sessions, plenary panels and a poster question-and-answer session. Topics cover everything from advocacy, community approaches to improving nutritious food access and food insecurity during a pandemic to the impact of hunger on family wellbeing, social justice and hunger, and feeding the hungry with “rescued” food.
The nursing school also has posted a list of food resources available in the greater Pittsburgh area as well as numerous local food banks and organizations that provide food and aim to end hunger.
