Women in STEM Program Focuses on Turning Discoveries into Business

Transitioning a scientific discovery into a successful business is a daunting task. Duquesne’s Women in STEM program will explore the subject during a special virtual presentation.

From the Academic World to the Commercial Sector will take place Monday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m. via Zoom. Dr. Amy Prieto, professor of chemistry at Colorado State University, will speak about Prieto Battery Inc., which she founded in 2009.

Prieto started the company by taking her ideas and scientific results on lithium-ion batteries from the classroom to the board room. She is currently Prieto Battery’s chief technology officer and chair of its board of directors.

The presentation is an example of Duquesne’s commitment to expand the horizons of students beyond their specific fields of study.

All faculty, staff and students are invited to attend and are asked to RSVP on the Women in STEM events page.
