Forensic Science Symposium to Focus on Hate Crimes
When Hate Hits Home: Investigating, Prosecuting and Preventing Domestic Terrorism is the subject of the Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law’s 19th Annual Symposium.
The two-day event, which will be offered through Zoom, will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 12. It will feature a variety of speakers, including criminal justice, behavioral health and public policy experts. They will discuss the root causes of those who commit hate crimes and strategies for preventing domestic terrorism in general.
Speakers will include Pennsylvania State Rep. Dan Frankel, former white supremacist Shannon Foley Martinez, FBI intelligence analysts John Pulcastro and Matt Trosan, and Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro.
The event is presented in partnership with the FBI Pittsburgh division, the Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh, Classrooms Without Borders, Duquesne’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion and McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts.
Attendees must register for the event, which will remain available to all registrants through Friday, Dec. 11.
The program is approved by the Pennsylvania CLE Board for 10 hours of substantive CLE credit and may be viewed either live or as a recording. The program is also offered for 10 CLE hours of social work continuing education credit through co-sponsorship of the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Social Work, also for live or recorded viewing. Finally, the program is being offered for up to 10 hours of APA credit through co-sponsorship of Education and Consultative Services of UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital as a live event only.
