Gaultier Fellows work closely with Duquesne instructors and students by sharing successful community-engaged teaching strategies and best practices, and by serving as strong advocates for the benefits that the University’s community-engaged programs provide.

The new Gaultier Fellows are Dr. Lucía Osa-Melero, associate professor of modern languages and literatures in the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts, and Dr. Meghan Blaskowitz, assistant professor of occupational therapy in the John G. Rangos School of Health Sciences.

Reflecting Duquesne’s commitment to promoting equity and opportunity in the region, the theme for this year’s Gaultier Fellows competition was Inclusion. Both Osa-Melero and Blaskowitz submitted proposals that generate conversations about inclusive pedagogical and program practices for faculty and staff across disciplines.

“Our new Gaultier Fellows will help bring diverse perspectives into classrooms across the university and beyond,” said Dr. Jessica Mann, assistant vice president of community engagement at CETR. “We look forward to supporting their engagement with faculty, staff, students and partners throughout the academic year.”

Both Osa-Melero and Blaskowitz have been invited to join a cohort of master teachers who use the fellowship as a vehicle to share their expertise. The distinction carries a $4,000 fellowship to support their community-engaged teaching and research in the area of inclusion.
