Grants Received

Funds totaling $1,190,299 were recently received by the School of Nursing, the School of Law, the College of Osteopathic Medicine, the School of Pharmacy, the Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences and the School of Education.

  • Dr. Kathy Sekula, School of Nursing, $500,000, as part of a $1.5 million grant, from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration, for the project Advanced Nurse Education—Sexual Nurse Assault Examiner Program.
  • The School of Law, $177,800, from the Pennsylvania Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts Board, to develop and enhance clinical legal education programs for law students. The funds will be administered by Katherine Norton, assistant law professor and director of clinical and international programs.
  • Dr. John Kauffman, College of Osteopathic Medicine (CoM), $50,000, from the Dr. & Mrs. Arthur William Phillips Charitable Trust, to support construction of a state-of-the-art examination room in the site of the CoM.
  • Dr. Jennifer Elliott, School of Pharmacy, $50,000, from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, for the project Center for Integrative Health—Bridges to Health Operating Support.
  • Anna Vietmeier, graduate student of Dr. Nancy Trun, Department of Biological Sciences, Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences, $2,500, for the project Microbiological Bioremediation and Bioindicators of Iron, Manganese and Sulfate within Abandoned Mine Drainage.
  • Dr. Gatiha Benmokhtar, Department of Physics, Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences, $69,999, from the National Science Foundation, for the project Parton Distributions in the Nucleon.
  • Dr. Melissa Boston and Dr. Rachel Ayieko, School of Education, $70,000, from Remake Learning, for the project Make(er)ing Math FABulous: Using a Fabrication Lab Setting to Enhance Students’ Experiences in Mathematics.
  • Dr. John Pollock, Department of Biological Sciences, Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences, $270,000, from the National Institutes of Health, for the project Partnerships for Prevention: A Plan for Managing Student Stress, Anxiety and Pain Through Interactive Media.
