Academic Affairs Speaker to Discuss ‘The Golden Age of Master’s Degrees’

A special plenary session hosted by the Division of Academic Affairs that was originally scheduled for February has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 28.

Faculty and administrators are invited to attend the session featuring Dr. Sean Gallagher, executive director for Northeastern University’s Center for the Future of Higher Education and Talent Strategy, and participate in a series of meetings about The Golden Age of Master’s Degrees on Tuesday, March 28, at 9 a.m. in the Union’s Africa Room.

Gallagher, who also serves as an executive professor of educational policy, first joined Northeastern University in 2009, where he is responsible for building a central strategy function unique among universities—working across colleges and academic domains to launch growth initiatives, including the development of new campuses and degree programs. His first book, The Future of University Credentials: New Developments at the Intersection of Higher Education and Hiring, was published in September 2016 by Harvard Education Press.

During this academic year, Duquesne’s Graduate Council has focused its meetings on the demand for master’s degrees with presentations from Todd Eicker and Kelley Maloney from the University’s Enrollment Management Group, and Dr. Mike Bridges, director of online learning and strategy.

“Dr. Gallagher’s visit gives us an opportunity to get up to speed very quickly on this issue and to begin to consider ways to respond to a dynamic and competitive higher education environment,” Dr. Alexandra Gregory, associate provost for academic affairs.
