Graduate Honored as One of Pittsburgh’s Fab 40

Sharnay Hearn Davis, a student in the School of Education’s Ed.D. in Educational Leadership program, was recently recognized as one of The New Pittsburgh Courier’s 2018 FAB 40 honorees.

FAB 40 honorees are individuals under 40 years of age who, according to the Courier, excel at encouraging others through their leadership, have made professional achievements in and outside of the boardroom and work to positively impact their communities.

Hearn Davis received her award at the Courier’s FAB 40 celebration on June 7 at the Fairmont Pittsburgh Hotel.

“These exemplary men and women are lauded as role models for the next generation of excellence and are our business leaders, mentors and community champions,” Ashley Johnson, advertising coordinator for the Courier, said. “We are glad to be honoring Sharnay Hearn Davis, along with 39 other African American men and women from our region, all of whom have made significant contributions to the community and business world.”

At Duquesne, Hearn Davis is a member of the University’s Young Alumni Board. She earned a master’s in community leadership from Duquesne and a bachelor’s degree in social work from Slippery Rock University.

During her more than 10 years working in the public sector, Hearn Davis has served as a community affairs liaison for the office of the mayor of Pittsburgh, facilitated child welfare case management and provided mental health services. She has also represented the United States as a One Young World Ambassador in Johannesburg, South Africa; Dublin, Ireland; and Bangkok, Thailand.

In 2016, Hearn Davis received the Slippery Rock University Young Alumni award, was recognized as an African American Leadership Association Emerging Leader and was named a Get Involved!, Inc. Western PA Rising Star.
