School of Law Hosting Inaugural Women in Energy Conference

Although oil and gas drilling has occurred in western Pennsylvania for nearly 160 years, the region has experienced unprecedented growth and development during the last decade due to the region’s position atop mineral rich shale formations. Several female leaders working in field will present their findings and experiences at a daylong conference Friday, Sept. 27, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Power Center Ballroom.

The Women’s Energy Network Greater Pittsburgh Chapter Inaugural Educational Conference in Partnership with Duquesne University School of Law will showcase 16 experts in the energy field who have spearheaded innovative engineering projects and played integral roles in planning, reviewing and executing multimillion- to billion-dollar contracts with major oil and gas companies.

Presentations and panels will feature women with personal success in environmental permitting and regulation, asset purchasing and leasing, asset development and title issues, and midstream infrastructure. The conference aims to provide women with a platform to present—many for the first time—on a wide range of technical and legal topics affecting the energy industry today.

Keynote speaker Stacey Olson, president of Chevron Appalachia, LLC, Chevron North America Exploration and Production, will share her experiences and insights about opportunities and challenges in the industry. In addition, Duquesne Associate Law Professor Agnieszka McPeak will lead a presentation titled Ethics: Corporate Data Governance and the New Trend Towards Ephemeral Messaging Applications.

“We are very excited about the conference, and we can’t believe that it’s almost here,” WEN member Bridget Sasson, a 2013 graduate of the law school and attorney of Dickie McCamey, said. “The Pittsburgh region is filled with exceptional women working in all factors of the energy industry, and this conference is an opportunity to display their expertise.”

The conference, which is open to the public, has been approved for four substantive and one ethics continuing legal education credit for practicing lawyers and attorneys. A cocktail reception will follow the conference.

Registration is available online, along with cost details. Visit the conference website for more information and schedule.
