Duquesne Community Invited to Annual Mass of Thanksgiving
The annual University Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated Thursday, Nov. 21, at noon in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items, which will be donated to the Brother Keating Initiative to feed those in need.
The Brother Keating Initiative seeks to maintain the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of vulnerable graduate and undergraduate students, including comprehensive support services such as health and wellness, meal vouchers and a campus food pantry.
The initiative is named for Spiritan Brother Gerald Keating who served the campus community from 1924 to 1980. He is known for quietly feeding students in need during the Great Depression.
In the spirit of Brother Keating and the season of giving, the campus community is asked to consider bringing these specific non-perishable food pantry items to the Mass of Thanksgiving:
- Spaghetti/pasta noodles
- Pasta sauce
- Canned fruit
- Canned vegetables
- Canned soup
- Boxed cereal and oatmeal
- Granola bars
- Peanut, almond or sunflower butter
- Jelly
- Canned tuna, salmon or chicken.
