Grants Received

Funds totaling $242,870 were received by the School of Law, the Office of DU CARES, the School of Education, the Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences (BSNES), and the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts.

  • Office of DU CARES, $20,000, from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, for programs to reduce and eliminate underage and dangerous drinking. Dan Gittins, coordinator for DU CARES, will be the project director. The award extends through June 30, 2017.
  • The Program for Academic Excellence, $129,400, from The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, to continue its programs. Dr. Judith Griggs, director of the Michael P. Weber Learning Skills Center, will administer the award. The award extends through June 30, 2017
  • Dr. Temple Lovelace, associate professor, School of Education, $8,000, from Rec2Tech at The Sprout Fund, for Sisters e S.T.E.A.M. Biology.
  • Katelyn Sadler, student in the Department of Biological Sciences in BSNES, under the direction of Dr. Benedict Kolber, assistant professor of biological sciences, $38,875 Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award Predoctoral Fellowship, from the National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, to support Sadler’s research project Effects of Central Amygdala Lateralization on Descending Control of Bladder Pain. This is year three of the funding, and runs through September 2017.
  • Dr. Henk ten Have, director and professor, Center for Healthcare Ethics, $85,470, from Novo Nordisk, for Bioethics Tool for Implementation of Global Principles.
