Faculty & Staff Spotlight

Dr. Jennifer Ann Bates, associate professor in the philosophy department, recently had her book, Hegel and Shakespeare on Moral Imagination, published by SUNY Press. The book examines the shapes of self-consciousness and their roles in the line between reality and drama through the works of both Hegel and William Shakespeare.

Assistant Professor Denise Lucas, a new member of the School of Nursing, won the 2010 State Award for Nurse Practitioner Excellence from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Each year the organization chooses one nurse practitioner from each state who demonstrates excellence in practice, research, education or community affairs. Lucas, who won the award for West Virginia, previously taught at Wheeling Jesuit University and served as a nurse practitioner in two West Virginia free clinics as well as in other parts of the state.
