School of Pharmacy to Host Annual Asthma Camp at Palumbo Center

A free asthma camp for children ages 5 to 17 years old will provide screenings, education and a chance to exercise with Duquesne athletes on Saturday, July 2, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the A.J. Palumbo Center. A second camp is scheduled for Saturday, August 6.

These camps are offered in collaboration with physicians from the Department of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology at Allegheny General Hospital and members of For Your Good Health, a regional nonprofit focused on health education.

After a study showing alarming results of undertreated and non-diagnosed asthma in inner city children, Dr. Jennifer Padden and Dr. Nicole Marcotullio, assistant professors in the Mylan School of Pharmacy, received a grant from Pennsylvania’s Commonwealth Universal Research Enhancement (CURE) program to conduct a series of asthma camps.
