New Technology, AV Equipment Upgrades Added to Union Ballroom

As a primary campus venue, the Union Ballroom is often the setting for University events, speakers and performances. Over the summer, integrated technology and audiovisual improvements were added, making the Ballroom a premier location for campus events.

“The Union Ballroom is one of the major venues that showcase this University to prospective students, parents, the business community and various affiliated groups as well as to current campus community members,” said Lauren Turin, manager of the Media Services and Distribution Center. “In today’s world, presenters and speakers expect technology at their fingertips. User-friendly, integrated technology was needed to enhance the experience for those who use the Ballroom.”

The following audiovisual and technology upgrades have been added to the Ballroom:

  • a high-end LCD projector
  • a user-friendly digital audiovisual control system to localize the operation of all equipment
  • a 10’ x 16’ electronic projection screen mounted on the bulkhead above the Ballroom stairs
  • eight 42” Panasonic plasma TVs on the pillars
  • a ceiling-mounted, remote controlled camera provides added video support
  • in addition to wireless access, hard-wired Internet is now available
  • 20 new speakers bring the Ballroom’s total speakers to 90.

“This installation has not only greatly improved the Ballroom’s technology infrastructure to better meet the needs of Duquesne’s community of users, it also has enhanced the appearance of the Ballroom,” said Turin. “And it will provide a cost savings to all who wish to use the venue.”
