Homecoming 2011 Packed With Events and Reunions

Alumni and friends will return to campus this weekend to share memories and create new ones during Homecoming 2011.

Homecoming 2011 will take place Sept. 30 through Oct. 2.

The festivities kick-off on Friday, Sept. 30, with the annual Greek Life Carnival shows at 5:30 p.m. in the A.J. Palumbo Center and a free performance by the Tamburitzans to celebrate their 75th anniversary at 8 p.m. in the Union Ballroom.

Various events and receptions will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1, with highlights including:

  • A book signing at 10 a.m. in the Union Atrium with retired U.S. Ambassador Thomas P. Melady and his wife Margaret, who co-authored Ten African Heroes, the Sweep of Independence in Black Africa.
  • The Dukes football game against Bryant at 1:10 p.m. at Rooney Field.
  • A dinner-dance cocktail reception at 6 p.m. in the Union Ballroom, which is expected to have one of the largest crowds in the events’ history with nearly 400 attendees expected.

Homecoming 2011 will culminate on Sunday, Oct. 2, with a 50th reunion Mass at 11 a.m. in the University Chapel.
