ISO Week to Celebrate University’s Rich Diversity
The University community is invited to celebrate Duquesne’s rich diversity throughout International Student Organization (ISO) Week from Monday, March 19, through Thursday, March 22. Co-sponsored by the Office of International Programs, the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Duquesne Program Council, ISO Week will showcase food, entertainment and activities of different ethnic groups.
All events are free and open to the public:
Monday, March 19, 5:30 to 9 p.m., Union Ballroom
The Duquesne Indian Students’ Association (DISHA) will celebrate the Indian festival of Holi with A Night in Colors. This event will feature Bollywood dance performances, henna tattoos, prizes for the most colorfully dressed male and female (judged by faculty), entertainment and authentic Indian food.
Tuesday, March 20, 4:30 to 7 p.m., Union Ballroom
The Latin American Students Association (LASA) and One Branch to Stand On will present Fiesta Latina. Attendees will enjoy a night of authentic Latin American food, a 50/50 raffle to benefit the Spiritan Camp for children in the Dominican Republic, a Fair Trade coffee tasting, music and crafts.
Wednesday, March 21, 6 to 9 p.m., Africa Room
The Union of African Students (UAS) will host the second annual Showcase Afrique. This informative dinner will address Africa today and feature authentic foods and African inspired performances. The UAS will also be raising funds to benefit different African refugee charities in and around the Pittsburgh area.
Wednesday, March 21, 9 p.m., Union Ballroom
The world famous Duquesne Tamburitzans will perform during ISO Week as part of the group’s 75th anniversary tour. The unique ensemble of talented, young folk artists will showcase the dances of Eastern Europe and folk culture through music, song and dance.
Thursday, March 22, 5:30 to 9 p.m., Union Ballroom
The week-long celebration will culminate with ISO Night. Different cultures from around the world will be highlighted through food, performances and activities along with a fashion show modeling different traditional clothing from each continent.
